I first heard her on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross back in March 2004. I loved her voice and she looked fabulous I can't remember what song she performed but I do remember vigorously recommending her to friends. It could have been Frank.
I only ever liked the Frank Album so did not really pay attention to her after that. I never knew who Pete Doherty was or The Libertines. I read about her getting mashed mostly.
But somehow somewhere, I hoped she could recapture the purity of Frank, come back to Earth and bestow upon us what we rightly deserved. Good music!
The airways are currently filled with condolences and I have spotted a "Best Friend" in the name of Kelly Osborne who Tweeted that she knew the real Amy and will never forget her. Yea, she knew exactly what went on. Is someone looking for publicity? I know I am. Some are calling her a "lost soul" or "poor creature". OK, but she did it to herself just like I afflict myself knowingly. I understand the consequences to myself and those around me. It is my choice. Just as I presume it was her choice to embrace the life-style she chose. Let us not forget, she had access to good medical care.
It is sad when we are robbed of talent. I sometimes wonder what Bob Marley would be producing today or would he have simply retired on the day he was meant to die? And I ask, can we really own talent? Or do we just borrow it for a while and it is rescinded without notice.
RIP Amy.
